VMS 80 turntable bearing oil

Does anyone know the grade of oil that was used in the early 80 models?
These are the units with the sight glass and the pipe.

This resembled motor oil (brown) and used to be supplied by Fuchs.

The later models eliminated the sight glass and used silicone oil.

Thanks in advance!

if you are planning to open the bearing, make sure you are ready to collect every single drop of the oil!!

have u spotted a depth variation in your cuts due to vibration from the motor?

i dont recommend you going there unless u know its a last measure! deal! that bearing can be very tricky.

the oil is basically is like the highest gauge existent. very very thick gear oil.

Careful, Leandro's reply is for the AM32b/VMS62/VMS66/VMS70 mechanical low-pass filter, not the VMS80 bearing.

I think only Chris Muth, Sean Davies, or someone with an 80 (someone from GZ mastering?) might know. I have an 80 and I'm not sure what viscosity the oil is. But I am curious, why are you changing it?

Hi I've taken one of these apart before and having thoroughly cleaned it , replaced it with silicone oil.

Have an 80 we're setting up at the moment and the oil level is low, so thinking I might do the same thing. Haven't cut anything on it, so I don't know if there's any problem.

I know Sean Davies well, but haven't got round to asking him.

Thanks for your interest!
