Just be sure to bend the tip of the pipe cleaner a bit. So, when inserting, the bend in the pipe cleaner matches the bend of the tube. Otherwise you'll be raking metal against metal and might damage the plating on the tube. Or scrath it, which you dont want.

We get occasional problems of chip wandering off onto the lacquer, usually it comes down to a partial blockage in one of a half dozens sections of the vacuum hose system, which lowers vacuum pressure. After ten or fifteen minutes of poking around and cleaning tubes, we find a rat's nest of chip nestled away in some out of the way passage we hadn't considered before.

Baby powder is your friend. Use it before every side.

I read that the Audiodiscs were supposed to be stored at 50% RH. I suppose Apollos and Transcos would be similar in need of humid environs?

Sam from Apollo just swapped out the new Adamant styli I was having trouble with for Transco. I should be able to test tomorrow to see if they work better.

Just an update. The Transco styli are working great. All seems to be back in order.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm sure there will be more question!

Good to hear Greg, big relief I'm sure!
Thanks for the update

Is it a transco "K" stylus?

Ok Thanks,
I believe 320 K's have a finer tip.
(the "K" marking is a second white sticker on the back of the case)

The sticker says 320 A2652. I assume the second is the serial number.

Glad it got sorted out Greg. I was in the same position some time ago and incorrectly thought it was the stylus. Actually what I needed to do was adjust the cutting angle. The cutting angle had drifted somehow and the chip was getting blocked on it's way to the suction tube, first balling up and then winding around the center spindle as you described. When I fixed that I put the old "problematic" stylus back on and it worked fine.

This might not be relevant for a VMS70, but it helped on a Scully.

today I face a similar problem on my Scully which is very frustrated...the suction can not pick up the chip from the beginning, when I setting LPI on around 280, the chip can stand pick up for a few seconds, in other LPI setting, chip balls up immediatelyand I check all things again and again.
1.Tube and hose are all clean
2.stylus angle have no problem, clean with acetone,I switch a new micro point stylus and use a new MDC lacquer but it doesn't works.
3.try to get the suction tube as low as I can, nothing change.
4.the suction can suck the baby powder pretty well

Is there anything I can do?
