Rewinding voice coils

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

Rewinding voice coils

Hello trolls!
Does anyone have experience of rewinding old mono cutter heads like the one on my MSS lathe. At some point my cutter has obviously been rewound although it works it doesn't look like a very neat job. I'm thinking i could do it better myself! It is not uniformly wound
Can anyone share their experiences, what type of wire should be used
What are the requirements for an effective voice coil?
Any do's and dont's? etc
Many Thanks

I'd try calling gib at west tech. He rewinds them all the time and could probably give you some
Tips.

i just actually did this last night to my RCA head, not as hard as i thought.. The problem with my head was actually the coil came unwound, because gib used a little too much wire.

I rewound it tighter with the same wire, trimmed off some excess, and now it works great.

I was told that the amount of turns is not as important as the length and gage of the wire.
generally its for reproduction.. but i like to play wif it sometimes.. :P
