The Mini Lathe Build log (Update)
Hello fellow Trolls!
I'm glad to finally be posting this project, something I hope you'll also get a good kick out of.
It wasn't until I found and abandon record player on the side of the road that I really started appreciating the art that is vinyl records. (six weeks ago)
You can imagine my relief after finding this forum in my research phase, So much knowledge to soak in, I must thank you guys for it all.
I guess posting this project (and others in the future) is one of my way of giving back.
I will continue to update this first post with... updates, so everything is in one spot.
Project, Start~o!
This Mini lathe is designed to 'cut' disk(or other soft plastics shapes) under 120mm in size.
The idea is to use parts I have on hand and my 3d printer to cut overall costs BUT still try to get the best sound quality I can.
After two week of research I took to SketchUp for some 3d modeling mockups. This final design is a compact mashup of examples and other lathes I've seen.
I won't go into every single detail in this build log, I'm more of a "Let me just show you" kinda guy.
Here are the models-
Got most the wood cut out of sanded 1/2 inch plywood. I think Ill do a nice dark stain when finishing.

Update No.2
I've printed most the parts and started bolting it together for a test fit. My gosh, I can't stop looking at it.
Even if the design isn't mechanically sound, it's still worth finishing.
The 'Tweeter plates' are removable so I can later switch them out with better ones without reprinting the entire head.
I made sure to add a 'lift' feature to lift the head off the disk when need be.
Here you can see the rear of the head make contact with the worm gear that will drive it to and fro.

You should really consider open sourcing this. I see lots of builds on here, and I've made a few myself, but just think about what we could do with an open source community effort.
