- Explainer video about Tefifon attached below.
The TLDR version is that it’s essentially a vinyl record but rather than recorded on a disk it is recorded on a flexible tape so that the grooves run along its surface.(like someone mashed a vinyl and a cassette into one format).
But before I can begin designing I need to figure out what kind of material I should cut onto? This is where you guys come in:
“What material would you recommend for directly cutting into that can be purchased as a flexible tape/ ribbon like structure? and most importantly why?”
What advantages would cutting on one material might yield over another? Or maybe you have experience in cutting with this material?
My candidates so far are:
- PVC insulation tape.
- Polypropylene tape.
- Aluminium tape.
- Copper tape.
- A combination of two choices.
(The original Tefi tapes were made through a complex process of wax cutting, joining, electroplating and then heat pressing onto PVC.)
