Alternative idler wheel rebuild idea

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

Alternative idler wheel rebuild idea

I recently got a roll of TPU filament for my 3d printer for another purpose, but I had the idea that I could use it to replace bad rubber on an idler wheel from an old federal recorder unit I've been gradually rebuilding. I was originally going to try just with the TPU, but I remembered a post from another forum dedicated to vintage turntable restoration, where they machined a groove into hard rubber and put an o-ring there, so I tried that instead. The TPU by itself didn't seem as "grippy" as I might have liked anyway. It will be a while before I can see how well this works, so I'm mostly just sharing this idea and asking for thoughts and suggestions. Thanks.
