RIAA ROUTE

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

RIAA ROUTE

Hello to all, I am building my lathe and now I have a doubt : where is the right point for insert the riaa circuit in the audio route ? Example :

1) Audio source

2) Riaa encoder

3) Preamp + Amp or Integrated Amp

4) Matching transformer for cutting head

5) Cutting head

Is exact this example ?

Thanks to all.

Ok, but I don't have a feedback cutterhead...; my question is about the audio route, no other...

Hi,

Your routing looks fine. If you are using a computer, you could do the RIAA processing to the files prior to cutting. If you are using an analog RIAA encoder and a non-feedback head, then you can pretty much place it anywhere in the chain.

I'm sure you could modify Flo's design to work just fine with a non-feedback head.

Probably want to add a circuit breaking fuse to you chain to prevent accidental damage to your head.

I had seen the post about the riaa encoder modified from Flo based on a Vivanco Pa111, but his design is for one channel, exact ?

About a fuse for protect the head, could be inserted after the matching transformer ?

yes the super simple riaa encoder is one channel.
but i strongly recommend an active solution.

either the one

so easy you even dont need a pcb for it.

of simpler and more possibilities for the future. get the caruso preamp board.just leave the socket empty for the ssm2019 and dont solder in the parts for the pi regulator. i can send you the mods if you ant the board .

for the fuse. put it at the output of the amp....

and in my opinion an analog riaa encoder is still much better sounding than doing riaa as a plug in in the computer.

what head are you planing to use?

Hello Flo, I have the Pierre Clement M2 mono, that now I have finally repaired.
It works to 22 ohm, so I have adapted it with a matching transformer that has an output from 19 , while for the input the original value of transformer was 1 ohm, so I have inserted two resistors in series for a total of 12 ohm. In this case I can so utilize a normal output from 8 ohm of an amplifier, or tube or transistor; otherwise I have the possibility to use an out from 16 ohm on my tube amp, but in this case I must eliminate the matching transformer..., so what could be the best solution ?

Many thanks .
Raffaello.
