Has Anyone Ever Built an Old Style Magnetic Cutting Head
I was curious if anyone here has ever built or found plans for building a wound, horsehead magnet cutting head?
I used to be a physicist and was thinking of tackling this as a project since most of the higher end lathes with magnetic cutting heads have gotten out of my price range and I'd like to have something nicer than my crystal cutting head lathes.
I'm not looking to rig a embossing machine and I don't want to use salvaged stereo speakers. I'd like to build a simple magnetic cutting head like the Audax mono cutters and then mount it on a small home lathe.
Any suggestions on where to get more technical information about magnetic cutting heads? I've read Oliver Read's book and was looking for something a little more technical about early mono cutting heads.

Hey,
I don't have any specific "design" for a moving iron head (except the basic principle scatch),
but I read an articel which says you could (or should if your budget is low)
use an old magnetic pickup since the basic is the same.
Maybe add a stronger magnet and there you go.
Hope this helps

I built an audax head... recently.....
its not hard if you have the right equipment.
first thing you need is an example to work from.

I made some, une is symple, the other a bit more complicated...
armature is grampian/bbc inspired but with vertical magnetic circuit and different suspension and damping.
BTW, Rolandjays, congratulations for your work, your cutterheads looks awesome!!!
