edison 1878 tinfoil phonograph / new foil has arrived

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

i found some 55mm wide adhesive backed aluminum shielding tape in china, actually found it on ebay, 32 feet for 90 cents. it arrived today and is making really first rate recordings that are nearly noise free. most tinfoil phonographs produce harsh recordings with a lot of "hash" surface noise from the stylus dragging across the surface of the foil as it is being indented. this machine is making loud crisp recordings with no background noise at all in comparison to any tinfoil phonograph recording on aluminum foil. aluminum is notorious for being noisy when used in place of tinfoil, but i have found with correct adjustment and the right stylus a tinfoil phonograph can make excellent recordings on aluminum foil. in this case, aluminum shielding tape used in electric guitars.
