Stylus force when cutting acetate sheets
I just received one of the cutting sapphires that are offered on Ebay (new old stock, USSR made, i think the seller is also active on this forum). I'm building a cutting lathe. Now, how much downward force do these styli usually need? How much till they break?
I'm planning on cutting flexidiscs made of acetate sheets. Are there any other materials on which i can use these? Any materials i shouldn't try because i might ruin the stylus?

I have to jump in and say, MyShank totally rocks! Fast delivery, too...
I've cut a few hundred sides now, all speeds, all sizes, they sound quite close to lacquer. Fairly minimal static issues (baby powder is a must), also grounding your rubber hoses is (stop giggling) very effective - use a thin wire, wrapped in a loose spiral, ground free end to chassis. I use heat lamp to help dry the wax, then kill it at start of cut. Stylus @ .5A, same as lacquer, different stylus, mind you, USE HIS!!!
Anyway, despite the higher cost, we here are committed to this product line, the customers are digging it, which is all that matters...
Shameless plug for an excellent product!
