Demo: How a Stereo Cutting Head Works
Hey guys,
It's Record Store Day!
I mentioned I was going to do this several months ago and although I printed and built most of it quite a while ago, today I cut and posted the video on YouTube.
Yes, I wish I spent more time thinking about the verbiage and had more takes to choose from explaining vertical motion (L-R), but I think I did OK. I don't write scripts, so it is kind of what it is when I shoot a video. I usually have some regrets later that I didn't mention something, or that I said something wrong. But at least I got through it.
Anyway, I hope this is of help to some of the new guys. I also hope that the experts are not too upset if I didn't explain something the right way.

Re: Demo: How a Stereo Cutting Head Works
Wow, really great explanation - thanks!
I'm interested in the details of the V-spring vs other setups that just use a nylon screw or rod for the torque tube. If the torque tube is a flexible rod that is fixed at the back of the cutterhead, do you still have the issue of twisting?
Again - great stuff, much appreciated.

HI Bryan,
I think you strike the perfect balance in this most informative video, niether too scholastic and erudite nor dumbed down to the nth degree. A difficult balance to strike and you have managed it well. Looking forward to the next chapter of Video Tutorial (Perhaps on CutterHead FeedBack, EQing, goodness the list could be endless!!! Soulbear.

Great explanation. You have gone to a lot of trouble to build your replica/demonstration gadget. You should get a lot of hits on this

Yes. The purpose of the V-spring is to prevent the torque tube from allowing the stylus to go out of perpendicular to the surface of the disc. If you torque tube allows that motion by being able to rotate on axis, you have defeated the purpose of the V-Spring.electronrancher wrote:I'm interested in the details of the V-spring vs other setups that just use a nylon screw or rod for the torque tube. Oh man, thanks for your confidence booster, but I'm swamped and have more to learn before tackling those topics!soulbear wrote: Looking forward to the next chapter of Video Tutorial (Perhaps on CutterHead FeedBack, EQing, goodness the list could be endless!!!
