Blanks of Unusual Thickness (BOUT)

Anything goes! Inventors! Artists! Cutting edge solutions to old problems. But also non-commercial usage of record cutting. Cost- effective, cost-ineffective, nutso, brilliant, terribly fabulous and sometimes fabulously terrible ideas.

Blanks of Unusual Thickness (BOUT)

It’s the recycled postcard gal again. I’m giving up on my recordio restoration as I simply can’t get any working grooves despite replacing every tube, crystal and cap, so I guess it’s time to look to the future.

I have a general question. Would a 1/8” thick record be usable with Presto or similar lathes? Can adjustments be made to fit a thicker blank?

Yes, 1/8" is no problem, as long as you adjust the right side of the overhead so that the overhead is level across the face of the disc. You can also just take off the platter mat, which should get you close.

hi
I had a similar job where I was too scared to adjust (long time ago) the setup up so I cut 2 records A/B then glued them together with thick polystyrene in the middle then cut the edges off and bored out the hole and another job I did it with cardboard in between, that thick cardboard with that hard inner lining ..lots of fun..
