Analog Mastering, Direct-to-Master Recording, Engineering Services
I cut lacquer masters on a custom Neumann-based AM44 system, using some of the finest analog vacuum-tube based signal processing equipment, and high-end cutting amplifiers, which I developed.
I specialise in cutting masters directly from tape, on a 100% analog signal path. I have a huge variety of tape machines to choose from, both preview head and standard. I do not use digital delays. When I'm cutting from standard, non-preview-head tape machines, I use manually variable pitch. Otherwise, Pitch13 does the magic.
I can even cut directly from cassette tape, very popular with DIY artists, standard or 3.75 ips.
Of course I can also cut from digital files if needed, PCM up to 192 kHz/24 bit and DSD up to 5.6 MHz.
On special occasions, I cut on a heavily modified Fairchild lathe, dating from the 30's.
In the past I was cutting PVC blanks with a heated diamond stylus and I also experimented with a variety of materials for blanks and styli.
I also offer analog direct-to-master recording services, either direct-to-disk, or direct-to-tape (mono or stereo), for artists and groups who can perform entirely live.
In addition, I often design custom professional audio equipment and electronic circuits. I specialise in vacuum tube electronics and unusual circuits of my own invention.
I offer consulting services and can design or modify audio equipment and installations to your requirements. I also modify, repair, and restore all manners of vintage audio equipment.
As and when time permits, I can offer restoration, repair and modification of disk mastering systems. I can also design and manufacture custom parts to keep you going. If you're looking to buy a disk mastering system, feel free to ask me. I might have one for sale, or at least know where to get you one.
I also often have professional tape machines available for sale, and I also restore/repair/modify these. If you are looking to buy a tape machine, contact me. Preview head machines for disk mastering are also possible.
I can supply rare types of vacuum tubes as well, I have a big stash.
In the past I was designing Analog Modular Synthesizers and even put together a video synthesizer.
Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any interest in what I do.
