Microscope
Would a 2mp endoscope with a monitor suffice for groove inspection?
Just wondering if I need more power...
Thanks

Re: Microscope
It's something I'm wondering about myself. Are you looking at the ones like this:
It seems like either one could be used for an inspection of the grooves, but the refresh rate would be a problem during playback if you wanted to monitor the live cutting. Also, you might run into issues if your source is coming from the computer and you're trying to monitor at the same time.

Re: Microscope
You want at least 200x magnification.
It is more important to inspect grooves when the platter is NOT rotating. It is hard to see them properly even with the scope on a Neumann when the platter is spinning. You can see them sort of vibrating and you can get a sense of if they are overcutting. But, real inspection is done with the platter stationary or turned slowly by hand. So, refresh rate is not quite so important.
Any modern mulitcore computer can handle a 2 megapixel video stream in addition to playing audio via a DAW without issue. I'm using ProTools 10 with 5 independent audio outputs, midi in and out, and I'm inputting 3 video streams simultaneously (I have cameras on my amp rack to monitor meters while working on the computer and I have a camera attachment for my scope). All of this runs on a Core2Duo and Windows 7 and no issues.

Re: Microscope
The ad says 800 times magnification
