Hi There!

My name is George, I am a self-taught composer/producer/experimentalist (www.handsholdingthevoid.bandcamp.com), and soon-to-be lathe cutter! I just purchased a refurbished/modified Rek-O-Kut setup and have completely reorganized my home studio -- and all of my available brain cells -- around this endeavor. I'm very serious about learning this craft, not only to cut my own experimental music onto vinyl for limited releases, but also as a solo business venture to help other independent musicians get their music onto vinyl (once I'm competent and confident enough to offer my services for hire).

I'm based out of Chicago, and I am super-excited to join this exclusive club. I look forward to peppering you all with question after question in my attempts to cut the perfect record!

Hello everyone, I'm a long time lurker and always dreamt of having my own lathe. Finally committed to it and decided to start on a VRT560. Made the trip to Germany and have been in love with cutting ever since.
I've been using it for almost a year now and I still get better with each cut. My focus is DJ/Dance music as I am a vinyl collector and DJ myself.
I am also a producer with my own label and I have made 4 records pressed at GGR and I loved that process. I'm currently stuck trying to find Distribution for those. If you know anyone who can move records let me know!
Also looking for a hard copy of Larry Boden's book about Disc cutting.
I'm also interested in hearing from anyone who has experience cutting lacquer with a VR T560. I recently installed the precision platter and have been having great results with diamond on the souri blanks, but I would eventually like to try a lacquer. I've heard that you need a sapphire stylus to do it and I still haven't found one that fits the VR so if any of you can help me out with any of that stuff I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

So I have made it my personal mission to design, make, and build a spiritual successor to the tefifon and subsequently cut my own “Tefi” tapes. (Even though they were pressed/ embossed but the idea of being able to make blank Tefi cartridges that can be cut on demand has a whimsical appeal).

Hi all, thank you. What a megga resource. Instrument Technician by trade but always a Musician and been recording and producing albums/films/radio since 92 or so in Australia, US and Europe. Now work mostly in Japan and Australia designing electronic instruments and the sounds. Been punished with nearly every format from gorilla style tape to tape, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 2” tape. had one of the first CD recorders in Australia (changed my world) , PCM501 and video machine, DAT, so yeah spent some time fixing stuff!! Started getting asked by young bands for Tapes and Vinyl again so jumping on board and building a cutter out of my multi- CNC machine (diy job does Lazer, Plasma (with torch height sensing), Metal and wood CNC and 3D prints).

Anyway, I’ll be asking tons of dumb questions…thanks for you patience in advance simon ayton.

My name is Jon. Newbie is definitely the best way to describe me. I have no experience with lathe cutting. Just audio engineering (recording, mixing, etc.). It’s been a while since I’ve done audio work and I want to get back to the swing of things, especially learning how to cut records (I love collecting/listening to vinyl).
