Atom 101 / Vanrock for a beginner ?

Hello everyone ! As a beginner, I have plans to buy an ATOM 101 / VANROCK Lathe, to start my Journey in record cutting. Do you think that's a good choice to start ? Seems like a better price option for me than a T560, which is pricer, difficult to get, and certainly more difficult to operate.

Looks like you can use PVC with it, which is cheaper i guess ?

Thank you !

Heya,

I'm in the exact same position and also have the same question, I'm hoping someone else will reply to you soon.

(Only just noticed that your post is 4 months old).

Cheers

It was my first machine and I personally think it was a good way in for me as I worked out I wanted more than it could ever do once I'd played around with it - this machine is fairly limited in what in can do but it does make things pretty easy. There are limited options for adjustment and be prepared for an OKish sounding outcome rather than the highest possible fidelity. Make sure you get a working one or be prepared to learn with not much documentation/guidance. There are a few people working on mods such as https://www.instagram.com/__ddr___/ I'm just in the process of rewinding the head and overhauling with a mod to allow for easy connection of external amplifiers to the head (a dramatic improvement over stock) - thinking about replacing the stock amplifier circuit too. Then it may well be for sale at some point when I get round to it. Good luck!
