Hey all,

Im not the brightest when it comes to making electronics etc, im wanting to build a lathe cutter/embossing machine. if there is anyonoe with schematics (is tht the word?) of 3d printing parts for the head mount, and some of the housing etc...i grabbed some rods from an old printer scanner, and have salvaged the motors in there, but there is no thread on the rods, will i need to go and buy/find a steel rod with a thread so it can turn correctly driving from the motor. also Tweeters vs little speakers...seems alot of people are using tweeters, should i go that route instead?
i want to build this around my turntable. if ANYONE has 3d files i can use to print certain parts that will be awesome. and if someone has certain threads they can point me to, that would be great. ive looked for D.I.Y instructions on this site, but not found much. All help will be apreciated. Where do you think i should begin?

You can look here:

But it's gonna be a tough one to make anything like that from some salvaged printer parts...

hi there
building a lathe from scratch is very difficult, but i can offer some pointers
1. Check out the experimental section
2. Watch this great video on the topic https://youtu.be/t9dJRgjcsHA
3. Get your supplies from recordlathepartsparts.com owned by the legendary piaptk
4. Start out embossing, only start cutting if you really value quality and are confident embossing.

Hope this helps

thanks for the feedback guys, i made a simple record cutter to see if i could do one without a precise needle etc, so will be making a proper one but need the housing 3d files for printing the parts to hold the speakers in place. i've orderd a stepper motor and stepper motor driver. am sourcing a lead rod and going to start to assemble that part, hopefully without 3d printnig involved. as i dont 3d print, im going to be going to a friend asking if he can do the speaker mount bit for the cutting head. iv got a Stanton Turntable similar to one i've seen on here being used. enough torque just. if someone has some 3d files they can share to me, that would be a big help.
