You probably need to have an adapter. You might be able to cut down the lowerwheel of a 78 idler, if you do the math and have Terry rerubber it to a certain diameter. But you also might have problems getting the whole mechanism over that far. It's the motor capstan that determines the speed... 33rpm for the smaller top part and 78 for the thicker bottom part. Never tried it, but thoguth about it and someone who knows about this stuff told me it probably wouldn't work, so I jsut bought a couple of adapters on ebay. But, i've been told plenty of things by people who acted like they knew that turned out to not be the case... so...

6N 45 RPM
Hi. I'm new to the group - Glad you're all here.
I had some experience with the 6N. There is definitely an adapter for the motor shaft. If I'm not mistaken both of the idler wheels were the same diameter, but were positioned at different levels to engage the top or bottom of the motor shaft. If you have the 45 adapter but you're missing a rubber wheel, try changing the location of the one you have and see if that works.
Hope I helped rather than confuse.

Hi,
I posted about this some time ago. Here is a link to that thread:

I think this is enough info to fabricate an adaptor.
Here is a link to a photo of a commercial adaptor that I found for sale on Ebay:

This is a nicer approach than mine as I did have to modify my lathe a bit (tapping for a 10-32 screw). This one just slips over the motor shaft and is held in place by a setscrew.
