Re: SCULLY LS-76 LATHE
If you have $9k + probably at least another $1k for crating and cartage - it can be!!JayDC wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/Scully-LS-76-record-cutting-lathe-1st-serial-number-wow-/320650993918?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item4aa849e0fe
wish it could be mine..
It's certainly a beautiful looking lathe. Dylan's definitely a good guy so folks should bid with confidence.
Best regards,

Steve, thanks for the kind words. I will miss this lathe when it sells, it is really in beautiful shape. I used to keep it in the house to cut records before I moved...
I have a good camera, so I will try to take a video of the lathe running and perhaps cutting before it is dismantled. I really like how simple the lathe is to use.

That is really a neat lathe. I didn't know that there were any digitally controlled Scully's. Wish I had the spare loot to grab it.

Ah, so this is Scully's "The Lathe" - never had the luck to see one in person. Nice to hear it runs. Looks like an interesting scope system. What a beast! It looks lonely sitting there with no lacquer on it. Was this formerly at DiscMakers?

Be absolutely ideal near her cousin .... Jejejejeje
We are restoring one of the famous Scully 2" 16 Tracks (280 is the model I think , but not sure) , Have many electronics problems. The look and feel are the common on Scully machines like this LS 76 , absolutely nice but totally out of our possibilities.
Who will be the Lucky ......

Hi Dietrich, this lathe is actually not the Capps Scully, that one sold for $650 last year to a nice guy in the Carolinas. It needed too much work for me as well. Motor missing, damaged castings, bearings all needed replacement. I sold the Westrex cutting system to someone else.
This is the last generation Scully, and is a very different lathe. Much nicer computer than the Capps, designed by Scully.

Fuller Sound in Miami had an LS-76 for sale 2 years ago. I don't know who ended up with it though. It was also set up for Ortofon cutter heads - they sold in a separate sale GO 741 Cutting Amps, GE741 Power Supply, CPS 741 transfer console, DSS 732 (Blue) Cutter Head, DSS-821 (Green) Cutter Head.
You can still see pics of these at http://www.fullersound.com/ebay/
Anyway - that's the only other LS-76 I've ever seen up for auction.
Best regards,
Steve Berson

I think the Fullersound Scully went to Europe actually, he sold it for something like $12k. That one was a bit different, none of them so far have been identical (hence I think Flo might be right that my lathe is from RCA, most of the other LS76 I have seen have either covers for the Lord shock mounts or have them hidden). I know the other Florida LS76 is in pieces, as I have a 2nd suspension box from it. Criteria had a few of these lathes.
