Hi all, I am getting some polycarbonate discs laser cut from quality material (probably 2mm black makrolon). In the UK. Anyone interested PM me, please indicate what sizes and quantities you require.
Depending on interest, maybe try different materials, but initially some polycarbonates to get going.

Polycarbonate Discs

Hi all, thanks to those that have shown interest.
I chased up the supplier today because they hadn't got back to me, apparently they're "incredibly busy" should have the prices soon.
But as an indicator....from my net research i think a sheet of 1.5mm will be about £180 and will make about 40 discs so that's about £4.50 before they're even cut. Thats why i'm probably gonna go with 1.5mm instead of 2mm as standard, but hopefully i've overestimated - just have to wait .......

Polycarbonate Discs

So I now have some sample Makrolon polycarbonate discs coming my way soon. I still don't have a definite price until i have OK'd the samples.
What i really need now is some help in testing the discs out, i'm looking for someone in the UK that can cut a side for me, i will be very gratefull.
Although i have a lathe i don't have enough experience to test myself properly mainly due to lack of discs (i'm not OK with shipping a bit of polycarbonate half way round the world).
Please help me secure a supply of blank discs for the UK, it should be good for all :)
Many Thanks

if it is full black material, forget it, everything was tested from
many guys before (souri, me, flo etc.)
too much noise, and the black color does destroy the stylus soon...
the key is a sandwich material, in the middle black and both sides
coated with clear material, and a protection sheet...
anything else is more or less sh.. BELIEVE ME 8)
maybe, a new material is better, but was has been researched,
was not good...
I also tested some black PVC from SIMONA, 1mm thickness,
very soft, also much noise....
anyway, good luck with wasting time

Hmmmm...

It would be very interesting to know what kind of material that was from vestax. If cutable with sapphire it would be very interesting....

Hi i been away from the forum for probably 18months
So what are the discs that are sold with the vinylrecorder? Are they a sandwich?, i've not heard of this before. I thought they where polycarbonate or Makrolon to be specific.
See for hobbyists like me costs will always be an issue, so if i can get some made cheaper i will do.

If it is not exactly this, it is precisely similar.
