Im new but id like to learn!
Hello this is my first post, im from Argentina and there is no culture in what cutting records respects. I would like to learn some aspects, how to start, what to use, and how to record. My first question is if someone is selling equipment and would ship it to argentina. Thank You!

Welcome to the forum!
There was a time when portable lathes were being used almost world-wide, so you may still get lucky and find something near you (and save on shipping!) If you haven't tried it already, maybe talk with some antique radio and phonograph collectors. Suitcase style lathes sometimes get overlooked as just another big record player.
Good luck!

Thanks for the recommendation
Thanks for responding, im afraid its quiet difficult to get the important parts to mount the lathe machine for what concerns in my country. Im very interested because i work in an independent recording studio trying to continue the legacy of rock n roll and culture of fine works. We are very influenced with all the music that was first think for vinyl records, as you can appreciate downloading any of our records.

And we could not only make our own records, but for many bands that would like it too.

There's two ways of making records:
One, cut a master lacquer and create stamped copies of it.
Two, directly cut several individual discs.
The first method is how most records get made. The master disc is copied and vinyl records are pressed in bulk.
The second method has become popular with some bands who may only want 50 copies of a single or less - it usually produces a slightly lower quality record though, and is very labor-intensive. Check through the "Secrets of the Lathe Trolls" section - there are several posters here who do lathe cut runs on a regular basis.

Thanks!
Ive checked both ways, but the first require heavy machinery. Im interested in the second way, because in Argentina there isnt a culture of listening in vinyl any more. So i think making less copies at first would be a good way to restarting the interest of the public. Also i have the room only for a small machine.
If we could only start making 10 vinyls per band, of 20 bands ive already know they ll pay for the work, would be magical and extraordinary.

ive seen this lathe and ill think something like it would be suitable.
what do you think?

Re: Thanks!
This device is of course beautiful ... But if you want to make a stereo and are not afraid to build and tinkering, then try to use the search on the forum "DIY", "DIY lathe" etc.vascowacala wrote:https://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?t=2879&mforum=lathetrolls

I tried time before contacting Hamilton, but was impossible. His biography says that he is a Dj and uses the machine to cut old songs that he would like into vinyl records.

Well, if you're looking to do short runs of dubs your best bet would be to look for something like a Presto or Rek-o-kut lathe as a starter machine.
Markrob is selling one at the moment:

They also come up often on eBay and other auction sites.
I'd say keep trying to talk with Hamilton - if the cutting community around there is as small as you say, he'll be invaluable down the road. Give the antiques markets another try, too, there's always a chance you'll find someone who knows someone that might have what you're looking for!

I use for my experiments transparent PVC TD-Clear 1mm with a protective coating on both sides. In my country it costs about 6 euros per sheet 1400x1000 mm.vascowacala wrote:I ll start reading and learning everything you sent! thanks a lot!

You can find alternative PVC sheets at home in any ad agency or a large hardware store.
This will be an excellent choice, because Mark can help you with advice in the future to establish a stereo cutterhead.Angus McCarthy wrote:Markrob is selling one at the moment:
