Why Polycarbonate?

MyShank sells 2mm transparent PVC (as well as black PVC), much softer and way less noisier than PC, and also better for your stylus (longer lifespan).

I tried PC but i couldn't get a decent result, it is really to hard to get a good sound.

Which type of cutting head do you have ? And about type of stylus, what do you use ?

Would the Myshank blank be better for embossing (and with a longer styli lifespan) than polycarbonate or is your experience
just with cutting?

Thanks!

I am in Texas, US of A. And I am looking for PC not to cut, but to emboss. I am not quite ready to work with expensive diamond cutting styli :)

Wait a minute. So - one can use your blanks to emboss? That woudn't require a diamon stylus or would it?

For example :
jesusfwrl wrote: I am impressing with the GoodTurn stylus on black PVC. This is one of the blanks made by Myshank. They are normally meant to be cut with a diamond, but I was experimenting with embossing on them to see what it will sound like. The sound is very good, but there is a lot of stuff coming out which is getting lodged between the stylus and the groove walls causing sudden bursts of surface noise. The obvious solution is a vacuum suction system which is the next thing I will be implementing on this setup.

Why is there "stuff coming out" if no "stuff" is removed (imprinting) ?

you can use the myshank blank for either cutting with diamond, or embossing with sapphire/ruby/steel/tungsten

in my experience polycarbonate is a little bit cheaper, though "harder" than the myshank blanks. they have a softer feel to them.
I use the myshank blanks for cutting with diamond, and polycarbonate for embossing, as I save a few bucks making the polycarb blanks myself.

Cool. I am going to order some blanks from myshank and try it out. But I have 80 or so laquers to work with in the moment - so I am good.

It's the no brainer !

My shank blanks are nice

Quiet cuts with diamond
Not much lamp heating is required

Try and source your own blanks and it's expensive
I've tried my self it's expensive.
