Scully Lathe near Toronto ON
I noticed last night that a Scully 601 lathe with what appears to be a Presto 1D head has popped up for sale on eBay near Toronto, Ontario. I didn't realize there were any left in Canada, and I don't recognize this one. But the seller has zero feedback and there's only one picture provided so I'm more than a little suspicious.
Thoughts, anyone?

Yes there is a Scully 601 with Presto head sitting in Canada. Was used in the 80s to record weddings by the owner’s father. Been sitting since. Maybe it’s this one?

This is why I hang around here - you guys have some insider knowledge. The studio it's in definitely has a very "hasn't been touched since 1987" look to it, so that would make sense.
It has one row of control buttons and both outside-in and inside-out levers, and possibly no automatic LPI control (just the big knob), so it would seem to be an early example of a 601. I wonder who its original owner was - I know RCA Canada used Westrex 2B, and Quality Records used a cutterhead with a lot more oomph than a Presto. That leaves Columbia, Decca/Compo/Apex, Capitol, Sparton and a few other indies.

If it's in a room with fake timber panel walls and green/white chequered tile floor. it will be this one. You got a link to the ebay sale?

If you want to cut for production…its a lot of coin for a base and a carriage…the rest is of little value to most folks unless they want an expensive hobby.

20k euro is not too bad for a good base i reckon. I’m not into Scullys though.StephenMarsh wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2024 8:48 amIf you want to cut for production…its a lot of coin for a base and a carriage…the rest is of little value to most folks unless they want an expensive hobby.

"No Longer Available" as of this afternoon - looks like somebody bought it outside of eBay.

I tried to buy it since before he posted and it the would answer, then disappear, I even had a crating company nearby to go pick it up. I hope someone bought it to give it the use it deserves
