I think I could maybe use it instead of the presto to go along wit my lathe controller shit. This with all new electronics, and a caruso would be sikkkkkk, for sure.

Seller doesn't seem very cool. I asked for the location for local pick up, and he came back really quick, no.. shipping only. which I would assume is at least a few hundred dollars. I figured this would give me a chance to inspect the lathe, to make sure it's not missing something I can't replace.

was going to make a cash offer too, but if he cant be adult about it, screw it.. I don't really have money to waste on scrap metal.

For sure you could use that lathe body Jay! It would be perfect for you since it is just the body and is well suited for your motor and pitch control mods. You are progressing nicely with that project by the way... :D

A nice, solid, heavy and well crafted body like that one would be very desirable. Especially with that heavy platter that can take a 14" master lacquer. Probably would have to replace some parts like the platter bearing. But, for the rigth price it would totally be worth it.

@Jay-I can see no one bidding on this for his asking. Is it even worth $700 as is?

It says included are what's in the photos. so: No motor! (or pitch computer, lathe controls, cutter head mount, vacuum system, cutterhead, amps, belts, etc.)

So unless you're looking for a fairly long term project piecing together everything - I personally wouldn't go for it unless you just need the parts (especially since condition of the feedscrew for the sled is unknown).

Best regards,
Steve Berson

its prefect for me, as long as the feedscrew is ok... was going to inspect, and pay cash.. seller doen't want to sell it.. i tink.. like i said, my lathe controller, and a caruso would make dis sled complete..

Is there somebody who recondition's scullys? or is it a case of finding one and having somebody doing the work for you?

In Europe who would this be?

Florian Kaufman ( Flozky) is probably the person who has the biggest knowledge for that.
He lives in switzerland www.floka.com

You can also ask Jvo Studer / Vinylium , they are friend ...

I am working with them since the last century , and they are more than good , also very friendly ...

in europe vinylium can help you. both jvo and flo have experience with scullys. in the states Len Horowitz or Albert Grundy can help you too.

there are a few tricky spots on them that get compromised over the years due to storage conditions and also on the way they move them around. mechanically, the lathe itself is very straight forward...

the condition of the feed-screw should be one of your biggest concerns, due that it is a very expensive part to duplicate if it's in really bad shape. removing them can be a bit tricky... there is something like a phenolic interconnect gear between the inside-out outside-in screws that is a nightmare to release... first time you do it, its a nightmare, second time painful, third time a walk in the park... cleaning them is needed. soaking them in acetone over the night can help relesing oil, grease, rust, dirt.... then you can soft brush it or blow it with compressed air...

chances are that you will have to change the bearing so the screws can run free and also noise free. these can be hard to find... they need to fit exactly the cage where they mount on, if there is considerable play between them and the mount cage, it can lead to cutting patterns on the record.

after seeing the photos, you'll prob going to want to replace the cork mat on the turntable or find another material that could work and also be flat... that can add to your overall tweaking time.

underneath the saddle there are some copper guides that are part of the saddle to screw engage mechanism. those can easily break, bent, dent, if the saddle has been mishandled. if removing a scully saddle from the lathe always lay it somewhere with this in mind.

motor and feedsystem another chapter...

Thats good news that somebody in this partt of the world can recondition.

considering that the chances of ever having the funds for a neumann are slim, a scully with a neuman or even vinylium head would be nice.

now to hunt a sucker down.

Thanks for your input leo, it would'nt be something id undertake myself but its always good to know what to look after and what not to get frustrated with.
