unique Ortofon lathe circa 50's/60's on ebay
I'm not the seller but wanted to put this up here as I've never actually even seen a picture of a lathe similar to this -

Hi Steve,
as you know, I've been eyeballing this one. Not sure yet what to do though.

I've got my eyes on that one too...
The lathe seems to be self-made - not ortofon, though looking nice.
The point is that there is absolutly no warranty that anything is working...
The guy who's selling it seems to be some kind of "vintage gear dealer" and just want's to make $$$ - after a closer look I found out that the lathe has been for auction not long ago:

...so if anyone of you gets it, I would be interested in those tube amps

Excellent find, thank you. Those photos give me a good view to some parts of the system. Weird thing, this one!

i did not even know that it exists.
i contacted the seller for pictures. the lathe is in zurich now....
i wantend to track down where it comes from. for me the original owner is the most interesting....
and i was lazy.. i didnt checked ricardo.. 600 bucks for such an amp, head is a bargain. i guess now he makes another 2000 just reselling it...haha
the lathe is defintely custom made 40ies early 50ies in switzerland.
günther was later the neumann rep. (like gotham in usa)...

I don't see the motor anywhere. It's not in the cabinet, that's for sure.

If you look a the bottom of the platter you can see a groove where a belt could have gone. I've seen a number of old lathes pictured with seperate motors on a stand with a belt that drives the platter.

In the last pic of the eBay auction images, you can see a part of the shaft coming through the top right where the platter is. There has been a motor inside the cabinet, but now it's out.opcode66 wrote:If you look a the bottom of the platter you can see a groove where a belt could have gone. I am most likely not going to bid on this. It's an interesting piece, but it's mechanically quite limited, and I'm looking for a solid mechanical platform.
Do you think it's been operated at one speed only? The simple strobe pattern on the platter and the lack of speed controls makes me think so.

Yep, it's pretty insane. I suppose the "Fonofilm Klangfilm" keywords work.

I was thinking of more like 1200 Euro for that piece of work. Oh well.
