It appears that the body serves also as the shank. Shank's for nothing? It's bundled with the nib, and this is not unique to MicroPoint or cutting styli:

How much shank can a head chuck chuck if a stylus has no handle?

Those might work on a Neumann but definitely not on a Presto/Rek-O-Kut, etc.

I saw the 'no shank' type of stylus in a book once, and then D got some from Al's shop. I haven't tried them yet, but it seems they would fit ortofon. And I would say they are technically long shank, solid sapphire.

The Haeco SC-1 used a shankless stylus. I'm not aware of others that did although I imagine there might have been some other more obscure cutterheads that did as well.

So I suppose the grand question is how difficult would it be to fit these to new shanks?

Hi Folk, I was not in front of my computer when the auction ended...actually it seems no one was.
If by any chance you agree to sell me the "Lot of 14 record cutting styli = Steel STYLUS cutter lathe", feel free to send me a PM.

I wouldnt recommend wasting time with steel needles anyway. They are pretty crappy, even brand new.

On top of that, the NOS ones you are likely to find anymore will probably be as pitted as these were. They weren't the highest grade of steel. Heck, they were meant to be disposable. I doubt anyone would expect to get a clean shave from a 50 year old box of razors.
