advice or leads on how I can get a Lathe here in the San Francisco Bay Area would be much appreciated.
For that matter any info on getting started with cutting records - lacquers would be great.
I'm just getting started, new to this forum, and sorry to say probably know a whole bunch of nothing about the whole process. So please excuse my ignorance.
many thanks in advance!

Your question might be answered better if you gave a general idea of what level of investment (money) you want to spend.

There are guys here that can help you find something under a 1000 dollars.

There are newer systems that run 3-10k and then high level system that currently cost 30k+.

Hope this helps.

Read the Lathe Trolls Wiki and any post on this forum with the word "newbie" on it. There is a ton of info here, and it will save you (maybe) from Mossboss's infamously savage tonguelashings. :-)

Like Clint said, there are all kinds of ranges for various budgets and levels of interest... small, self contained lo-fi suitcase cutters, "semi pro" lathes, and stereo mastering lathes, etc.

Unless you are ready to spend a whole lot of time and money fighting a steep learning curve, I wouldn't jump into anything more than a suitcase cutter.

This is not like buying a computer and releasing your own CDr that night. You can expect a LOT of effort for very little payout for the first few months until you get the hang of it.

You can be a bit curmudgeonly and textually cryptic, but you know your stuff, and I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, Mossy...

We got to keep this alive and going man
So sharing is not an issue
We are here for every one, well, most of us "Old Hands" who care
I really hate to see people going down the wrong path wasting their hard earned money on a trip to no where.
Punctuations? What are they? Read my post(s) a couple of times or between the lines.
Make them aware, keep them on their toes, force them to think
We can do that, Think, read, learn.
Don't you agree?
By the way talking about being Cryptic!!!! Phew
Start communicating with Dietrich, thats an experience and a half
He has redefined Cryptic-ism, indeed.

Cheers
By the way, I just lashed out on another post.
This post, some punctuations, just for you. Ha Ha!

Oh yeah, I'm frequently confused by texts from Dietrich... but we figure it out.

Some of us enjoy a trip to nowhere, Chris. And occasionally, you end up somewhere you didn't intend to be, but is kind of nice, anyway. (and sometimes you just end up broke, with a lathe that doesn't work and a pile of broken $100 styli)
