could this be used as a basis for a decent stereo home setup? like adding to an SP-10 M2? say with a Caruso stereo head? wishful thinking? if so, what would drive the OH, another motor?

That's the usual route with frankenlathes that aren't hub-driven. Saves money on feed screws as well. :wink:
