You are lucky you didn't buy them... why buy 10x 50 year old blanks for $14 each, when you can get brand new 12" dubs or ref lites for less?

Good question. Maybe so that you can cut an Elvis Sun Studio recording onto an original Presto branded acetate on a Presto lathe (like the Presto 6N they had at Sun Studios) and sell it to an unsuspecting collector for $30,000 or more and then buy a VMS70?piaptk wrote:why buy 10x 50 year old blanks for $14 each, when you can get brand new 12" dubs or ref lites for less?
I think Phillips use Audiodisc, and wasn’t that (6N) lathe only used for references? I have a bunch of NOS audio disc and presto blanks. Never used them thoughAussie0zborn wrote:Good question. That's exactly why. I did not want to pay more than the new discs cost, but on the other, I'm running a presto 6N, 93a amp, and 1-C cutterhead. If I cut on presto acetate, I would be a real posterboy for presto right?Aussie0zborn wrote:Good question. Besides, they were in mint condition. It's a vintage collector's thing.
If it's a collector Presto thing, I've got a stack of really nice looking cardboard based 12"s I'll sell you... Doubt they cut that well...
