for all bidding on a cheap SX74:

it might be a SCAM!!!!!!!!!

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Neumann-SX-74-SX74-Cutter-Head-Bohrkopf-for-Neumann-Lathe-/110973501560?pt=Studioequipment&hash=item19d6894078

i was close to buy it buy it now. for such a price i dont have to think about.

but... it was already suspicious..
1. too cheap.
2. lousy pictures.
3. an adress in the nowhere of spain.
4. the website is under construction.
5. communication is with a guy in england
6. googled about the seller and there was a scam story in the rickenbacker forum...
7. no paypal only bank transfer

so i think beware ! .. if it is still real and no scam: congratulation to the brave bidder.. you made a nice deal!

if not...too bad for the 3000 bucks...

Yeah, the lack of a PayPal account makes me the most suspicious, actually. For an eBay seller to not have PayPal screams scam, since there's no buyer protection with other methods.

Does anybody remember sometime back the 2 head from EMI in Chicago the SX74 sold and sometime later it appeared as a scam out of the UK.

The photo is identical to the other scam.

That 100% rating doesn't mean shit. Look at the history. Classic scammer. This is exactly what they do. Build positive feedback on $0.99 items. Look at the feedback. Almost all of the auctions are for items worth $1.

They start a number of these accounts. Post auctions. Then use another account to buy those posted items. So, you'll see the same person as a purchaser over and over.

The next tip off is that the positive feedback itself is generally nonsense. Or, the same text repeated. That is a big red flag.

So, sure they have 100% positive on 60 x $1 items. No way would I give them anything more than $1 if that.

Scammer will work together with their accounts in an online massive. They will "buy" each others items and give positive feedback. No money is exchanged. No items are sent. Simply a positive marking on eBay and following the rules as far as they know.

eBay could shut this all down by requireing PayPal and then checking to be sure that items were paid for that have been marked as sent and positive feedback received. But, believe it or not. They don't care. They know full well what is going on but don't care because they still collect auction fees either way.

Now you know. Be careful. Review those positive feedbacks!!!!

Head Number should be 669. they told me....
i wish my neumann-files would be actual no idea who belongs this head now.
maybe i will ask all of the sx74/68 users again for head numers they have and machine serials on this forum to update my files... sometimes that would help....

and also it could be very handy for stolen goods...

so if you ffel like sharing your serial numbers with me. i dont trade them send me a p.m. and maybe i will adress you in the near future by email...

f.

Well, that clinches it.

Isn't there some way to report suspicious auctions?

Regarding auction scams: if an auction looks suspicious but the item is worth some effort, one can use an escrow service as a middle man to protect both buyer and seller.

An example would be

Opcode is right about the recent buying of the ebay user. nothing for almost 10 months and then just a few dollar items to show activity.

sure sign your ebay account has been hacked.

Photo and description from the EMI head in Chicago. Definite scam. 17 hours to go and 11 bids. Someone for sure is going to lose their money.

Yes, and this is not the winning bidder from the EMI auction; lewislatoro. I could believe if he were re-selling it. But, this is an entirely different account as the seller.
