Oh, man... What the actual f...? I recently saw a Scully with a digitally controlled Maxon motor underneath it. Fraction of the cost. Rock-solid speed control. Mind-boggling torque. If it breaks, the owner can easily get it fixed or buy a new one... Come on people.

I still want an SP-10 though!

Thanks man, I love those old broadcast decks, but it's for a VR setup and I'm not sure the McCurdy would fit under the overhead.

the SP10 is great, but look at the SP15 as well, I run one of each under my VRs, and I've not noticed a difference

Thanks Tyler. I'm searching for those too, but they seem pretty rare.

I run an SP15 on my VR. It works alright as long as you don't go too heavy on the weight. But over 22g, and you get wow and flutter.

See if you can get your hands on an original Numark TTX with torque control - very good unit for cutting plastic.

I think Flo will be the winner when his AM44 comes out - not sure of his pricing but I know for sure it will come in lower for his turnkey lathe package than the prices out there for just a motor.

there's almost always SP10_M2's on ebay, prices seem to be creeping up lately,
maybe $1500'ish

theres a NOS M3 on right now, still a day away from closing already $11k, OTOH, I've never seen an NOS one

the original ttx had problems with overheating and there was a sensor that would blow , you could bypass this and drill holes in the bottom case to keep the heat down and they would work fine after that, great decks i serviced a lot of them.

There's a 'parts only' SP10ii on UK eBay at the moment. £900! If that's what these things are going for nowadays I might have to reconsider.... Possibly a DIY route. Price for SP15 on US eBay looking good though.

one time I did a ton of research on the 2's, and if not working,
run far, run fast

unless you have big skills in electronics repair,
the iC's in the control circuits are pretty much unavailable anymore
best wait for a good one, tested at least fully operational, then
you can do some the recapping and lubrication yourself

search SP10M2 on Vinyl Engine for other info
