Lathe Cut Camp 13! October 16-18, 2021 TUCSON, AZ

LATHE CUT CAMP 12 in September Sold Out extremely quickly, so I've schedule Lathe Cut Camp 13 for October 16-18, 2021.

If you have a lathe you don't know how to use, are looking to buy one, just want to know how they work, or want to cut your own records and hang out in Tucson during Monsoon Season, this is for you!

http://www.LatheCutCamp.com

(This Camp is PERFECT FOR NEWBIES or Folks who just want to learn how it's done whether they want to start cutting themselves or not!)

(Classes are Saturday thru Monday, but Monday is just extra practice and cutting of campers records, so if you need to fly in late Friday and leave late Sunday, you will get most of the information)

YOU ALSO GET TO CUT YOUR OWN RECORDS AND TAKE THEM WITH YOU!

Well, holy crap, the first Lathe Cut Camp in almost 2 years. I'm excited to host yall again!

THERE ARE ONLY 8 SPOTS AND ALL PREVIOUS CAMPS HAVE SOLD OUT!

Spend three days in scenic Tucson, AZ learning (almost) everything you need to know about DIY Record Cutting! The focus of this camp will be on mono "semi-professional" machines, with particular focus on Presto 6Ns, which are one of the most common and "industry standard" vintage machines around. (if you have a different model that you want to learn more about, please ask! I may have one you can use here, or you can bring your own). You can do some amazing things with these incredible machines, and I will show you how.

We will also talk about and do a little Stereo Diamond cutting demo, which is new for this lathe cut camp!

Bring your own music and we will put it onto discs for you to take home. We will touch on professional record mastering/pressing, but my main interest and experience, and the focus of this camp, will be on the more DIY and experimental side of the hobby. There are only 8 spots available, so buy early because every previous camp has sold out!

Perfect if you are interested in:
Vinyl records and how their masters are cut
Learning how this strange black art works
Buying a lathe to make your own records
Ordering lathe cuts from a lathe cut service
Cutting your own music to disc

Topics covered:
The science behind vinyl record cutting
Lathe Operations and equipment
The pressing process
Lacquer dub plate cutting
Experimental and alternative materials (plexiglass, laserdiscs, picnic plates, etc)
Stereo Diamond Hifi One-Off Records

Please Note: You are responsible for your own transportation to/from Tucson and your accommodations. However, the hotels here are pretty damn cheap (DO NOT book a hotel on Oracle Rd unless you enjoy the company of tweekers and ladies of the night).

RENTAL ROOMS AVAILABLE: I have a rental house with private and shared rooms, and Airsteam Trailer that I open up for renters if they would like. Includes Fri-Monday Night (if you come earlier/leave later, we can negotiate).

Happy to see these start up again Mike!

I highly suggest taking part if you want to learn record cutting. Not only did I learn a ton, I met some great people and had an absolute blast. Worth every penny.

If I could guarantee that we would be allowed to travel to other countries by then I would be all over this!

Fingers crossed for next year!

^^^^ What soeffingodly said.

Also, to paraphrase my own self here, from the last time I posted about Lathe Camp:

Thanks to Mike’s willingness to share some of his own knowledge and experience through these camps, I’ve been able to ramp up my own operations to the point where I can confidently make records that sound pretty decent, IMHO, and have been able to push some of the limitations of the medium itself. If you consider that Mike had had been experimenting and honing his craft for nearly a decade prior to the first Lathe Camp I attended in 2016, I think that says quite a bit about what I feel I’ve learned from him.

I've seen folks attend these Camps who only had a peripheral interest in the art & science of making records, who suddenly found themselves inspired enough to invest in a lathe cutter of their own, and start making records. Personally, I've attended three out of eleven Lathe Camps so far, and I'm currently working on being able to attend the 12th one in September, because it always seems like there's some new knowledge to be gained. And I can guarantee that I'm not the only one who feels that way, so hopefully I'll see a few of you there next time!
