Presto K-8 Manual?

I just picked up a Presto K-8 cutter (no: not from eBay.) I'm fairly certain that I've read almost all available information online but I still haven't come across a copy of the user's manual or schematic. Does anybody out there have it? Greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry that the free copy of the manual doesn't meet your standards. Next time I'll upload 5000DPI TIF files.

You're being very impolite. Lou2er used his valuable time to scan and post this thing, and all you do is to complain. So what? The manual is still readable, and considering the source quality (probably a blurry old xerographical copy) it looks fine to me. Perfectly readable, even the schematics.

You should appreciate other peoples effort.

I pointed people to a place to get a good quality copy of the K8 manual. I simply stated a fact about the scan here in this thread. Unfortunately, that was take the wrong way and had to be retaliated by a smartass comment for the OP.

whatever, if you want to draw that conclusion. There are great people with deep knowledge contributing here. They don't complain and are usually encouraging and thankful for every contribution. No reason to flame here because of some tiny irrelevant comments.

This post is really agianst the spirit of this very forum However there are quite a few honchos out there, one that comes to mind is monomer some scenario

Agreed by mean I have found the information on here invaluable, other people's time and knowledge saves me and others hours in what is a steep learning curve when learning how to cut records effectively.

I have lurked on site for some time only commenting or asking general questions in the past.

But now I have acquired a Presto 5C head and a Rek O Kut M5-S lathe carriage, I have started to ask more question specifically about those models.

I found myself here as the 5C head is off a Presto K8. I for one am eternally gratefull for all the help in my knowledge and understanding, or help with parts, issues etc etc....

I just got one of these--its either a K-8 or a K-10--and I think the manual posted here is fine.

I am having some trouble figuring out what the parts are in this document and could use some help.

I read one post on the k-10 which says that they come with a ball bearing. I have also heard that there is no bearing with this model.

The needle on this thing sits just a little too high and the platter alignment is a wee bit wobbly, so my guess is a bearing could solve both of these issues. It looks like part "Kp4" in this document could be my missing bearing. I also could be missing the so-called type 127-B tire...

What do you guys think? Should this thing have an extra bearing and/or tire that fits right under the platter?

KP4 looks to be the first worm gear, if I'm not mistaken - the one that spins the feed screw. Apparently they considered it a separate part, though how to separate it from the platter is beyond me.

If your cutting head rides too high (causing a forward tilt in the needle and "plowing" into the blank) try loosening the screws that attach it to the carriage. Set the arm as if it were in the middle of cutting and position the head at the proper angle, then re-tighten the screws. When it arrived, many things on my K8 had the be adjusted. The rubber mat had been replaced with a thicker sheet than it would have had originally, and the drop cam had slipped/been knocked down far enough so that the needle made contact with the record before the carriage ever touched the cam - and this was cutting on thin plastic sheet!

Also, the "tire" refers to the ring of rubber on the edge of the platter. It's what the capstan spins against to drive the platter.

Getting ready to re-cap the amplifier in mine. It's working but with lots of transient distortion. I was scouring the schematic and I was surprised to find no "C104" listed anywhere. Am I just missing it or did they skip a number?

Incidentally, does anyone have a quick reference on how to properly disassemble a Presto K-series, or at least the amplifier compartment? I don't want to end up inadvertently taking out a screw holding some vital setting in place.

If I remember correctly from when I recapped mine, after you undo all the screws on the control panel, the amp chassis lifts out with it. I don't remember it being too complicated.
