yes it's from an rc car.
it basically stops the head from oscillating. i had that issue that it moved up and down a little because the head hangs on a spring.
the stylus also moves down very gently now so hopefully no broken styly anymore:)
you can buy all sorts of oil for that mate.
and yes it is a technics sp10

I have a little interest in RC cars long ago. And as a matter of fact I tried it on the lathe but it seemed too stiff by itself. Well, the fluid as I remember was the same, but inner plate with holes represented the stiffness. I used the biggest ones to loosen things but it was stiff too... I thought that this system is good if used with advance ball because when in any reason the recording disk is warped a little then the stylus will do a deeper groove.

Hey Fraggle,
wanted to know more about you suspension from RC car. I have got back to experimenting with that again. And came a long the same problems that is too stiff. Tried changing oil and chaged inserts with more holes for oil to pass freely. Maybe you have done some more modifications to it or it just went good for you from the first try?
If so then maybe you can give a model name and numbers of that suspension to see what exactly are you using.

So you can confirm it is too stiff or it does not work for you other way?
i havent tried to cut yet. drilled more holes to the oil plate inside the suspension. it went more loose. there is different oil for these suspensions.
really it have to be very soft and not stiff that is for sure. if too stiff it makes difference in the weight control on the stylus. so be careful.
