Check this out! got an email about it this morning, thought I would post it even though people think this thing sucks (and I agree).

i would be interested to know what their blanks were made of and where they all went!

From my understanding - it's a non-feedback head with some not very well tamed resonant peaks and a limited frequency range along with an underpowered amp, the turntable motor does not have enough torque to not give you a bit of wow and flutter, and there's a bit of rumble with the platter/suspension as is as well. Not to mention there's no stock chip pickup (but you could mod it for this without that hard of an effort). Guess it could make for some starter parts for modding if you really wanted to put some work into it. This is one of the better prices I've seen these listed for though - it's almost reasonable if it's in good working order in fact.Techie wrote:Why does it suck?

dont know but an engineering company could copy a vms without issues for example. buy one, take it apart, measure, do the modeling of each part, do the drawings. off to a company who can make the stuff. no problem at all. it's all there but nobody wants to pay for it and you wouldn't sell 50 of the copies....

Ok, maybe the objective was not to make a bad lathe, but it still baffles me when something is designed to do one thing and one thing only and does it poorly. If it really sounds like a train station P.A. it should be in the price point of a child's toy. I guess I should just say "What were they thinking?"

Don't compare the prices from then to now. The reason being
At the time when they had did have a price like that, the lathe trolls were babies, and the world was huge. Now the Lathe Trolls have grown up and the world is very small. Meaning at the point when that price could have happened it did and people who were excited bought them. They had that price all along many years have gone by and a few much lower priced / better sounding options were popping up (as people got the knowledge here i am saying) they kept to their price. Most likely now they have realized it is never going to happen and now have said ok drop the price. I have touched one with my own hands. I liked it for what it was but at that new price still nada!!
