Have any of you built a floating / isolation platform for your lathe? How heavy is a Neumann and or Scully lathe?
Thanks,
Tim

Basic Disc Mastering by Larry Boden (available for sale elsewhere on this board, and a fantastic resource) lists the weight of a Neumann VMS70 as 771 pounds net, 1212 pounds gross. I'd imagine a Scully is about the same, maybe a bit heavier.

My Rek-O-Kut is around 70 pounds by itself, but plus the sturdy wooden stand it lives on and all the lead weights in it for ballast, it's closer to 300 pounds. I have some foam under it for vibration isolation, but I'm not sure how much good it does - the cutterhead will still bounce if I don't tread lightly elsewhere in the room.

There was another thread on this pretty recently with a lot of input from people.

You should be able to find it pretty easy.

The L. J. Scully LS-76 (without the drive package, but with the microscope and chip jar) is 600 lbs., uses 600 Watts, goes to 600 LPI, has 600 Ohm (phono output Z), and runs on 60 Hz (as well as 50). Keeps it simple. The weird part is the 6V regulator for the 5V Vcc.

Thank you. This is helpful. I'd also like to add that I was in touch with Gus at Sky Onion, who recently installed a Scully system. He estimates the weight of a Scully lathe, fully assembled, somewhere between 750 and 900 pounds.
These things are beasts!!

Our Scully model 501 weighs about as much as 4 or 5 hipsters stacked on top of each other. But doesn't smell as bad...
