Well, as such lathes themselves are not stereo or mono, but the system was well into the stereo era. One of the last new lathes designed along with the 2nd generation "THE Lathe" from Scully. I think the actual head used on many of them might have been an Ortofon. They might have built their own amps and electronics or used Ortofon. Cybersonics just made the lathe and control electronics, possibly the signal electronics, but not the cutter head.
Anyone else have more info. or a better time line on all this?

They only made 5 or 6 of these and were not of the best quality. You could only go up to a 12" disk with them so they didn't appeal to a true mastering studio to cut production masters for manufacturing. They were marketed as a dubbing device for recording studios to give there clients somewhat an idea of how there final mix's would sound like on disk. It did use the Orthofon cutter head. I do have specs and photos of the cutter, now I just need to figure out how to post them here.

Re: CYBERSONIC CUTTING MACHINE
I know this is old subject but yes, I did see Cybersonics DM 2002 lathe and I picked up the brochure they had at time at some audio convention which I can't remember and I still have it, if anyone needs more information.

Hello John, I am always interested to know infos on these lathes. Do you remeber the year of convention ?
Can you gently post these brochures here ?
Many thanks though after 3-4 years...

Re: CYBERSONIC CUTTING MACHINE
It had to be early 1980's when I was trying to put together my own custom record pressing plant (which never happened), maybe an AES convention here in L.A. The address for the company was Cybersonics Inc. P.O. Box 8327, Universal City CA 91608. They had the unit there, it did have an Ortofon cutting head but the unit was not operational. It looked great, but it was very simplistic in design compared to a Neumann AM32 B or a VMS 66 and beyond which I cut on back in the early 70s at United Sound. It had no electronics other than the turntable, oversized base with the controls, attached microscope, and the cutter head assembly.
I will drag out my scanner and try and scan the four page brochure which is almost in pristine condition. I am sure they never got the unit operational.

Re: CYBERSONIC CUTTING MACHINE
From what I remember, I doubt if they ever had an operational unit. I believe there was only one made and it was the unit I saw at the convention/show and used for the color brochure. But I could be wrong, but I never saw any of them around, I wish I could remember the names of the people behind the company but I can't. I'll try and do some digging in old files to see if I find anything further.
