Lathe motor replacement

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Lathe motor replacement

I have a vinylrecorder lathe with a blown motor. Everything else is fine. Does anyone have experience replacing the motor?
How can I remove it is my first question, then finding and mounting a suitable replacement.
Any info would be helpful since souris does not seem interested in my problem.

you mean the extra motor for the precision plate, or your turntables motor?

no, I mean the motor that drives the gear in the lathe arm. Not the turntable motor.

I found a replacement motor, but still have to get the &*^% thing out!

Could be, but I got it second-hand.
Also, as mentioned above I haven't been getting replies from Souri.
I have read that he is not the most accomodating person to deal with. Maybe I'm wrong and he's just on vacation, but whatever the reason, I want this thing operational! woooo

I suspect that I can't just yank the thing out by force, so I don't know how the motor shaft is attached to the gear. Also, I don't know if it's epoxy'd in there or just friction fit or what...

with the machine which i have seen it seems to be "glued" into the outer tube with silicone.
an option would be to buy the inside-out stuff from souri - it contains another motor which you can use instead of the original one (and which is attached at another place)

be careful if you try to take out the motor! be sure to remove the "fixing nut" on the left of the big black wheel - then you should be able to pull the motor + inner lead screw out, i guess

Souri got back to me and said that I had a prototype (I don't know how he could tell, since I gave him no photos or description, or purchase date) and that the motor and electronics are different from newer models. He never offered any more info or help, and won't reply to anything else, so I am really on my own here. I found the model # Faulhaber 2230 012S

faulhaber-group.com/servlet/com.itmr.waw.servlet.Anzeige?fremdaufruf=ja&kdid=40929&sprachid=1&htdigurl=/n167866/i86089.html

You can download the 2230 specs pdf file from here. It runs unloaded up to 9600 RPM at 12Vdc. It has a 10.8 ohm rating and has a stall torque of 13.2 mNm

Small update: I found a machinist who is interested in trying to get this thing removed for me. We'll see on monday.

And how come my url tags don't work? HTML is enabled... :x
