Humidifier in cutting room?
With the temp here in Cleveland hovering around 0 degrees F, the heat has been running constantly and although I have humidifiers in several rooms, two days ago I started having massive chip pickup problems. I went through all of the usual troubleshooting and had no improvement at all. As a last ditch effort, I brought a small humidifier into the room and ran it for a while. The first record I cut had excellent chip pick up...seems like the static electricity was causing the chip to stick to the lacquer.

Re: Humidifier in cutting room?
My current cutting room and last both use forced hot air heat via gas. I always run the humidifiers partial every day especially when the lacquer days. If not I get chip issues(not to mental static not good for the gear!)

We run a humidifier in the lathe room pretty much all winter.

I had a similar issue, even though we aren't having Cleveland weather in Nashville, it has been sub-20° here. Ended up running the AC for a bit (dedicated unit in my room) and it cleared up the issue. I fought the chip for awhile. I even changed the stylus thinking that it had something to do with it before thinking about static.

That seems counterintuitive. An AC normally removes moisture from the air. I would think that would make it more static prone. In my house, I run a humidifier in the winter months to increase the relative humidity. That helps keep the static electricity level down. If the outside temperature is 20F, I rather doubt running and AC would even do anything as it needs to see a temperature differential (outside hotter than inside) to work.

Re: Humidifier in cutting room?
The cold air being pumped in from outside has more moisture than the dry air coming from the heater. And since I'm not having chip issues anymore, I'm going to stick with it.

Re: Humidifier in cutting room?
Chalk me up as another who has to use a humidifier in the cutting room or I get chip pickup problems. Funny, I didn't need it in August. Haha.

I cut on makrolon and have had the same issues. Humidifier is a must have for cutter room
