Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
Since I rendered the new ones at 112 and 224 pixel height they should all come out 1 inch tall when cut with the corresponding leedscrews. I named each file appropriately.

You need a Windows based PC with the .NET Framework version 4.0. Unzip into a new folder. Run the exe. Enjoy!

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
it worked!
I ended up cutting on a picnic plate, which worked well.
The color of the modulated and unmodulated grooves were different enough.
Interestingly it wasn't 1 inch tall at 224.
When I tried on the lacquer, it was 1 inch tall at 112, but the image wasn't totally clear.
I could see a pattern, but not the clear text like on the plate.
More tests later!

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
Dumb question. Did you cut the same file at both LPI's? Or, did you cut the appropriate (different) file for each LPI? Also, were you cutting at 33? The files were rendered for 33.

I followed the directions for both.
224 first, 112 second.
at 33 yes.
I wish I could take a picture for you, but I don't have a good enough camera to catch the grooves in the right light

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
I'm not finished with it yet. There will be many more options. I'm not even close to being done yet. My app will also include a visual wyswig editor/preview. Additionally, I want to try to grayscale effectively implemented.
I understerstand this has been done before. But, I want to do this for satisfy my own curiousity. Finally, I will be posting the final code for free.

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
Promising results so far. We are now experimenting with grayscale in order to develop a palette of gray. So, my application will in fact do more than any other of its kind. No one I've seen has done grayscale imagery. Only one bit, black and white pictures and text. My application will generate audio with varying frequency and volume data in order to get to grayscaled images.
My next version will also be able to take an image and map a continuous stream of pixels following a concentric spiral path. So, you'll be able to take a picture and cut it to the disc. The center of the image will obviously not show because it would be where the record label is.

Hmmm. That's odd.
I have a much more recent version of this application. Possibly you should try that. PM me an email address to send it to.

Todd, that is the most crazy thing I have seen since the laser etched Split Enz LP back in 1980! I would love to try that out! Can I?opcode66 wrote: I have a much more recent version of this application.

The application is compiled to use the Microsoft .NET Framework 4
Do you have that on your machine?
If not please get it from here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24872
Once you have this loaded, try the older version. If it works, then we'll get you running with the newer code. Either way, it is a work in progress...

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
DAAAAAAMN this is kool!!! - As I first started reading the thread, I wondered if I was thinking right as to what it would do (didn't see pics till sec. pg.).
Then I listened to the first posted wave, and had a flash back to my commodore dayz, when you could make you disc drive 'sing' -was a fun thing
Then I saw the pix, and yes as I thought, just like the 'litescribe' cd etcher...
EFFIN' amazing!!!
I also thought in the beginning that maybe this was tiny- letters/images only to be seen under a microscope. like a calling card 'bladerunner' mark. Which would tell you who made the cut...
(which would be fun too).
when I get up and running, I am sooooo going to do this... (I'm gunna need to learn me some stuff. Got NO clue as to coding or experience with programing etc.. Maybe by the time I get going you'll have a REALLY simple easy version).
Thanx sooooooo much for developing this...

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
Here is the latest version. It is still not quite finished being developed. I have yet to add features for importing a picture and taking a spiral path of pixels from it in order to create audio. Right now, pictures get warped into a ring and then converted into audio. So, give me some more time to finish the final bit of functionality. This is compiled to run on Windows XP or greater with the .NET Framework 4.0 loaded. I recently added an inverting feature so you can generate a stereo file with completely out of phase data. I want to experiment with this feature more. I think the added depth can be used to further enhance the gray scale I want to achieve.

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
Can I ask why you were using XP mode? It runs under Windows 7. You don't need to use XP emulation. I have not tested under XP mode. It sounds like the driver and using to write a wave file is not functioning appropriately for you at least in your environment. I'd be happy to generate a wave file for you if you want to tell me what text you are using.

Re: dgmGrooveGraphics - Text/Image to Audio for Groove Art
I just completed code to open an image, plot a tight spiral (not including the label area), pull pixels from the image along the spiral path, convert the pixels to grayscale, and then convert the grayscale pixels for each spiral revolution to 1.8 seconds of audio per revolution (at 33.3 rpm), then save the revolutions of audio to a contiguous wave file. Still needs more work to integrate the various user selectable options. I also need to add a few new options that are specific to the spiral slicing.
I'll post a new build tomorrow. You'll be able to do banded or spiral translations!
