i am regretting pressing this due to losing money until some deals are finished.

Guys, don't forget, eBay, if you can't get rid of some and don't want to sit on them. I'll bet you'd have NO trouble selling them for at-cost plus ebay + paypal fees + a little extra for your trouble, just be sure to state that they are harder material than lacquer blanks and are therefore sold for "experimentation", and the seller will not be held liable for any possible damage to equipment not designed to handle the added stylus tug from PVC.

(Sorry, I haven't had time to build custom equipment to experiment & provide feedback on discs I received; they look very nice and heavyduty, and special thanks to Simon for the extra-thick 45 pressings, I was worried they might arrive super-thin like the Collectibles reissues and warp like crazy under the slightest heating)

hey guys,

i got 10 x 7" from Simon. After a visual inspection it was already clear it would be diffucult to get descent cuts onthere; surface isn't 100% smooth; you can see the 'bumps and holes' on it. I tried 1 a while ago but didn't get a descent result; since then i havn't invested more time on them.

i had 25 x white 12" pressed a year or 2 ago; those are smooth and cuttable; got some nice results on it...seems like a lot depends on the plastic used at the plant and the quality of the stampers.

anyway, i'll do some more cuts on Simon' 7" when i got some time...

ok here is our solution

due to the bad distribution politics of apollo we want to make this solution public domain.
it will replace the regular accetate dubplate almost.

you can use polycarbonate (lexan) plates in combination with the vinylium diamond stylus.

perfect chip removal
no heating required
sound is very good
noise very low

the onyl negative point is that the blanks are transparent.

for me it is good enough to replace 90% of all acetate dubplates.

you can order lexan at your local plastic dealer. dril a 7.3mm hole yourself
and cut them out circular. a square 25x25 cm , 1mm thickness should cost you around 2-3$. if you order in round shape and with hole much more.

Only one question; are these blanks resistent like the pvc blanks OR do they wear out each time you play them like a lacquer dub?

it is quite durable. i think same as pvc.
but has to be tested.
much harder than an accetate.

i think it only works well with diamond.

Flo will it be possible at all to get diamond stylii for Westrex or Grampian/Presto heads? I don't think the Neumann shank will work in a Westrex and is too short for the Grampian/Presto heads. Also, do you know if they are ground with burnishing facets as for lacquer or is this necessary when cutting plastic? I tried some of Souri's blanks a few years ago and he made me a couple of cutting styluses on shanks for the Grampian/Presto head - heating elements and all. They worked reasonably well, but the groove is not quiet like lacquer. At the time he recommended cutting at a 5 deg. forward angle (leaning into the motion of the disk); I tried both vertical and the standard -5 deg. but the groove was noisy. With the slight forward tilt it was fairly quiet. I do have a test disk he made for me years ago on one of his black disks but it hisses when played, almost like a worn vinyl pressing. I don't know if he was grinding his own styluses or having them made somewhere. Would be nice to have a source for diamond points...

hello
at the moment vinylium make the styli just for neumann,sc99.
but i will ask if they can start a production of long-shank, westrex.

i let you know or someone from vinylium will post some news....

the background noise is very low
but with current souri diamonds, plates there is also almost no noise...

the vinylium stylus has no burnishing facettes. they are quite similar to dmm stylus which also has no facettes.
