i'am new ... can't make loud records :(
hi !
i make my own lathe and mono cutterhead with garbage and some tools ....
this machine run well but, the sound is very low in amplitude and not have more that 6khz , and no bass ....
I use a RIAA inverse with audacity and a qsc power 500w and the cutterhead is make with a neodimeos magnets of a hdd , a iron armature with gap, and a inoxiron pivot with a cooper bobin, and a saphire rusian stylus cheap... the cutterhead can make sound very loud, but not embossing louder, when i playback all the sound is low ...
not use turtle wax because is not can buy in my country. and not use heat stilus....
how can help me with any tips to make better sound ???
thanx !

Hello,
Witthout pictures is hard to say... but moving iron cutters are very symple, if you are able to machinne it. Small gap, big magnets,(but not too much) closed magnetic circuit, coil big enough, magnetic friendly materials(mild steel and lamminated pollepieces) high resonance, small weight....and hundred little thiings more...
Patience and lots of luck wiith your project!

My wife just said "eww even I know that's sloppy" that's a rad picture though. I was finally able to log back in because I'm bad with computers. I am/have building a few moving iron mono heads also. No testing yet though. My first attempt was surprisingly successful! Although i know little to nothing of coil winding .see separate thread in innovation experimental

hi !
this is other pics, .... but this are with steel needle make my own, this sound more load and very very distortortioned.. the stilus are not aliniated can see ...
the other picture is with more space into grooves, ....
I will make a heat stilus soon, working in...
salu2!

Hello !!!!
YES, .... with heated stilus the sound is better, but my principal problem is the resonances, i beleve that much bass and some high make resonances and make distortion.
i will try with a new head, with less mass in the pivot..
coming soon
