presto 6n ratchet assembly problem
ok, small but big problem.
my rachet assembly wont engage when my cutterhead carrige is engaged.
it works fine when the carriage is not engaged.
i have taken apart and re-greased.
i have a thinking that the little spring inside has seen better days.
any help/thoughts would be great.
regards

the rachet assembly is the worm gear part on the left hand side.
feedscrew stops rotating when weight of overhead is placed on the feedscrew.
the part is 6n-38 i think in a presto manual.
i have adjusted the overhead carriage to have as little weight sitting on the feedscrew maybe needs more adjustment

Hello Trolls,
I'm trying to repair the ratchet of a 6n. I unscrew rhe 3 screws that hold it toghether( are they?) But the thing dont seem to open...Can it be opened? Any ideas about how to do it are welcome...before I get mad with the torch and hammer!☺
Thanks for reading.

Hi Fela,
It should come apart with a bit of effort.
A good cleaning and re-grease of the ratchet solved the issue for me.
Best
Peter

Thanks for your answer,Peter,
The ratchet was filed with epoxi! But managed to open it with no damage to other parts.
Here's a pic if somebody wonders how it looks like:

The 8dg has a similar setup in the overhead.
Mine was in a similar condition, after years of sitting the grease solidified and had to be carefully scraped out with some "welding picks" i had. (Just a really cool pick set for some reason associated with welding at the local hardware store.)
What's odd is, i have never seen a new formula of grease do that. I wonder if it's like old formula rubber, where they perfected it as time went on. (Older rubber over time turns rock solid and crumbles away.)
Just a hunch. Nothing solid to back it up.
