looks like your height might be wrong. the same place you adjust the head angle is where we adjust the height.
mine sits about 75% of the way up on both my lathes

Re: VR cutting problem!Help
Im wondering if its because your turntable is not the same height than a sl1200 mk2....
Maybe...
Maybe...
Re: VR cutting problem!Help
Are you doing these tests on an mkII? Or do you still have the mkIII?
If it's the last one, big chance your stylus is again damaged.

Hey Tragwag,
If i adjust cutterhead higher,my cutterhead couldnt parallel to the blank..only that low can paralle to the blank..
Hey Ben,
the height is around 8cm,same to mk2? Hey Tremdall,
I havent switch to MK2 yet,but i have not cut anything yet...just adjust the angle, height and weight..

Hi,
I have a question to You. Did You unscrew isolation feet from Your Technics turntable? I think You didn't do it!

Re: VR cutting problem!Help
yeah I was gonna mention that too. Because I use the SP-10 and SP-15, I've had to put some cardboard underneath to raise them up to the level the 1200 sits with the little feet. that's also why those feet are adjustable.

Re: VR cutting problem!Help
Hmmm.... Is everything level??? Check the table/bench/whatever it is your VR sits on with a spirit level. Side to side and front to back. Then check your lathe bed (the large base) is level, again side-side/front-back. Then check your turntable is level. Once everything is level, adjust the cutterhead to set cutting angle, then set the weight/depth. Good luck!

Re: VR cutting problem!Help
That's a freaking good news !!
I'm happy for you, one thing that helped me a lot.... always triple check everything before starting a cut even if you're used to it , what lead me to scrap blanks or diamonds... was always me thinking " I know my sh*t, that's how we do it " and then you forget a little detail ... and ouch on the wallet.
Keep us in the loop of your progress it's cool to hear from you!!

Updating on an older post of @JHL
I'm not sure what the name is of the dashpot oil (I believe it was mentioned on LT sometimes in an older post)
But I recently changed the oil for the first time in almost 4 years. I guess that's a bit too long, but no problems though.
I include a photo on which I removed the old oil with a syringe and an added small tube (part of an audiocable), in order to get the last drops out of the dashpot & not having to take apart the dashpot. This worked fine.
To add new oil the syringe sold by Souri worked fine without an additional tube.
Anyway, the oil itself is very thick. Think consistancy of very thick sugar-syrup. When you would flip the dashpot upside down, the oil would basically not drop within a minute at least, thát thick.
The older oil had a smell of older motoroil. The new oil is without a smell.
For the exact name of the oil you can have a look on this site, but it's def thicker than the kind of oil you normally put in yr car.
