Hey all
How about this, very recently as well. I guy places an order for some records Masters arrive artwork is supplied the job gets cut printing gets done plated checked out gets test pressed, test pressings go out all normal
Dude gets back to us real happy with the test gives the green light to go ahead
Press gets going the job is done he pays his bill goods go out to him Obviously after he receives his records He gets on the email real upset
"The labels are not lined up " he tells me
I am scratching my head so as to figure out what he is on about
About 10 email exchanges later it is all worked out
He had a message on one label say A side that went half way and the other half was on the other label B side So He wanted them perfectly lined up so when someone flipped the record over could read the whole msg in one line
He asked for all manner of things and things got a bit hot for a while after I told him he was an idiot wanting that on a round article as it is very hard to do any way regardless
He got reall angry I told him where to go
Than a couple of day later he gets on the phone and tells me that He was an Idiot
He went through all of his record Collection about 600 records, he could not find one that did line up
His vinyl mates told him he was an Idiot as well So he said
It is quite funny really what people expect nowdays It seems that the novelty of vinyl is not only the music
Cheers

This is very funny!!

How about the Scottish bagpipes album that EMI Australia had been selling for years? A guy who bought the record rings EMI to say his copy of the LP is playing backwards. After confirming his turntable was spinning in the right direction they checked the record and the master tape, and yes, the sound recording on the record was playing backwards!

I guess the cutting engineer didn't know what "tail out" meant.

Even funnier is that there were thousands of people listening to this record all those years - backwards - and nobody noticed it.

Backwards bagpipes! who could tell ? :)
Where can I get a copy of that?

Speaking of being cut wrong from a tape, I once had a copy of "Wednesday Morning 3AM" by Simon and Garfunkel that was supposed to be stereo. On one side it was, with Simon predominantly in one channel and Garfunkel on the other. (It was an early stereo mix and their first album) On the other side of the record it was mono in both channels of the record, of only ONE channel of the stereo tape - so it was all Simon IIRC and no Garfunkel or perhaps the other way around. It sounded odd with harmony in places with no melody!
It was so odd because it was not the actual mono master (in those days there were both) but one channel of the stereo, only on both channels of the record - and just one side. I have since obtained other used copies of this and they are normal on both sides.

Hey All
We "recently" cut a heavy metal album from a very early days band who decided that they will get together again for a gig or two You know the story
We did the job and send out test pressing They got all excited and said that all the band members have to listen to it and give it the green lioght The word came back "It sounds great go ahead press them up" 500 of them so they sold a lot on the first gig another lot on the next and than a few more and so on So about a couple of months later this old hippie come metal man calls up and tells us that he just bought the record and one side is in Mono the other side Stereo Now the mono side had only one chanel on some tracks that being a 12" album monoed on both channels on some other tracks it was only on one channel We said hey man talk to the band that is what they gave us Well What do you guys think the excuse was "Hey man we were all stoned when we played to record the masters and stoned when we listen to the test pressings" Well they said they will do another take and come back for another pressing That was 18 months ago May be they are still stoned
Cheers

 Nice excuse, being stoned.

It is good that the first guy actually admitted that he was wrong. Others would still refuse to admit it even if they already know that they were wrong.

@ mossi:
on toolex machines, you can use label magazin with 2 bolts,
so the labels are aligned.
the magazins at our 702 where like this, I cutted the second
bolts off :) because the holes must be drilled correct into
the labels...
only one printing facility in germany does this :)

Hey Andy
You perfectly correct We are on manual Alphas and yes it can be done Notch the acetate aligning marks on labels and all of that not a big deal really it is painfull for the press operator But whats the point It is a round article so a few centimetres hand movement would line it up for any one to read any way The crazy thing with this dude was that he had artwork that called for printing around the labels with all his Record label details and all that except the title of the seven was straight It would not be right to post it up here otherwise I would have
Cheers

Weird things and disasters....

Hi All -
We got away with so much at I.P.C., mainly with young men not knowing much about the process, but also on much larger jobs, and on much bigger budgets! One paticular Label - huge investment, big players in the Dance market - had all their masters cut and plated in France
- now, not wanting to offend our french brothers, as I'm not sure which plant cut them - but they were the WORST cuts - and Plating I have ever seen..very ugly!!
- You would not believe how many corners we had to cut just to get the jobs out - but the company in question refused to acknowledge they were just being cheap - even tho' they had over a £500,000 contract!!!!

- It is unreal what some people expect - with young bedroom-DJ's you could send them even faulty product, full of horns, clicks, pops - and they still would 't mind - tbut the " AMbient " crowd - jeez - THEY are a Picky lot
- it's VINYL - you will hear some white noise, but at least your album will look good !
Not really griping - Love it all really, but as Chris said Expectations don't have to be so high...!
Fun and Laughter today for me anyway, nearly blew myself up with a pressure tester.!!
...fell about laughing afterwards....!
Cheers,
John.
