Fairchild 199
Hello!
Here is a Fairchild 199 which I’m working to bring back to functionality. With some great help from EpicenterBryan (thanks!), the Presto 92B is happily functional now, so I’m on to powering up the cutter, but need a little advice…I’m mostly familiar with K8 presto so this is a little different.
For your reference, please see a photo of paperwork which came with the unit - “Power Distribution Diagram” below:
Items on the left side are no longer present and items on the right of the diagram are present.
So within the console is the Fairchild, the Presto amp and a ‘Strobe’ unit. Missing are the “Frequency Stabilized Power Source”, “Junction Box” and “Amplifier Rack”.
What is the ‘best’ way to power the motor? Had to put a mirror and reverse the image to read it.
115V 1800 rpm Continuous - Bodine - It is a 3 wire motor Brown, Brown Speckled, and Light Brown wires.
I have tested the capacitor nearest to the motor and seems to test ok.
So, based on what is here (and what is not here), what is the next step to starting the motor running?
Thank you!
For ease of reading, here’s a couple zoomed photo of the recorder diagram.

Re: Fairchild 199
Hi,
You can see from the schematic that the AC mains go to the motor via the switch. Look to be the grey and blue wires.

Thanks Markrob
Put wall power to this earlier and it resulted in a wobbly, rocking motor…

Power synchronization issue?
Possibly bad motor, grommets, alignment issue?
I’ve oiled the motor tubes.
Fairchild platter and gears spin freely smoothly when articulated by hand.
Thanks!

Re: Fairchild 199
Trip to Ace Hardware and changed motor grommets; running well now!! Might change the big grommet for a smaller one, but great for today.
Top left is original grommet…
On to the next step…
