what does this sound like to you? (vinylrecorder noise)
hello trolls! i have followed many of the tips and tricks that i have found on this forum, but i still find that i am getting unacceptable levels of noise in my cuts. here is an example: https://soundcloud.com/ok-panda/0001-monitor/s-InjOJ
here is a summary of my equipment and procedures:
vinylrecorder t560 with brand new stylus
stylus heating set to 10
souri's blanks heated to 40-45 celsius
ambient temperature varies as i am cutting records in my garage
overhead and cutterhead alignment recently calibrated
no problems with chip, suctioning works well
any ideas where this noise may be coming from?? or what i may be able to do to eliminate it? any help would be hugely appreciated!

Re: what does this sound like to you? (vinylrecorder noise)
try starting a cut closer to the inner diameter, do you have the same issue?
are you using the antistatic fluid?
what is your head weight? you may be cutting too deep.
If all those things are solid, it may just be plastic debris on the stylus.
Use the stylus scope to have a look, and use the stylus cleaner to clear off any debris, double check with the scope and if it's clear and smooth, you should be good to go.
With that much surface noise, you may have a damaged stylus in need of resharpening

Re: what does this sound like to you? (vinylrecorder noise)
thanks trag!!
the crackling seems more apparent on the outer edge of the record, but can still be heard close to the center.
yes, i am using souri's surface denoiser.
cutterhead weight is ~12g - maybe a little bit light actually? the little spring gauge that comes with the vr is always a little bit of a pain to use.
i'll try adjusting the weight and cleaning the stylus and let you know how it goes.

no good
scrubbed the stylus a few times, adjusted the weight a bit, still getting crackles and pops. it's a little better but not all the way. any other ideas?

I was having the same issues, installed a new stylus (no heating) and re-calibrated - noise gone.okpanda wrote:no goodscrubbed the stylus a few times, adjusted the weight a bit, still getting crackles and pops. it's a little better but not all the way. any other ideas?

how flat do the blanks look when cutting?
I find even slight warping to manifest itself as noise

Yeah I've experienced the same. Just let it heat and spin, then flip it over. Seems to do the trick

I am having exact same problem my power supply for stylus heating shorted and burnt heating wires i am cutting without stylus heat with extra heating 50degrees and still pops and clicks could the heating short have damaged the stylus?ennayess wrote:Yeah I've experienced the same.
