Landsurfing and embossing

Hi Folks,

I am currently embossing and getting some very good results. The only issue I am getting is 'landsurfing' nearly always at the start of the disk. Is this a given with embossing or is there anything I can to do to reduce it happening?

What is the width of the starting grooves ? Is it the same as the end grooves? Is the lathe level all the way across?

Also ,I ve had problems when the sylist is leaned too far back. check you angle and weight . see if that helps.

What do you mean by “landsurfing” exactly? Playback stylus skating? Or riding between horns on the side of the groove? What embossing styli are you using?

Hi folks,

Many thanks for the advice. Think I’m nearly there. I’m just stuck between ‘tricky’ tracking with very low noise and ‘no problem’ tracking with a little noise (it’s acceptable but I want to get it better).

I guess it might be a trade off. Will experiment a little more this week.

yeah I hear you there! it's an angle adjustment usually for me.
Like you I'll get the lowest surface noise, and some "horn riding" issues on louder cuts.
Then I angle the head back towards flat, and get better tracking, but slightly higher surface noise.
