Hi all,
Selling my complete Neumann AM32 lathe. We believe it is 1953 (pre AM32b) and sourced from the EMI studios in Auckland, New Zealand.
Fully cleaned and disassembled ready for safe shipment.
Has upgraded suspension head, Flo Pitch 13 system, microscope, cooling and Pro Harmonics custom speed, temperature and power controller.
Lyrec has new bearings.
Has Neumann SX45 and Flo Caruso cutterheads.
Also included is the original spinning bellows pump for suction (again more history than current functionality).
Comes with original controller, suspension head, microscope and amplifiers/preamplifiers if complete period restoration required.
Located in Adelaide, South Australia.

Hubba hubba. AM32 and an SX45, together. (Would love to be able to zoom in on those pictures.)
Fwiw, was just checking out an old edition of Radio-Electronics from March of 1964 (Vol. XXXV No.3), which happens to have on the cover
master-cutter Claude Rie, using a Neumann lathe with SX-45 stereo cutting head fitted with Helium line, which the article inside, written by the late, Al Grundy, states was originally suggested by Georg Neumann for increased current tolerance. The article also states that it has a 15-degree vertical cutting angle, so, not far from ideal for today, though not including additional offsets deemed helpful by Ortofon for addressing (in advance) lacquer springback and also stylus holder flexion, which should be compensated for by an additional 5 degrees, each, for both symptoms (ergo, 25 degrees VCA to make an effective 15 degrees VTA).

That's still in the past, if based on 15 degrees, but close enough for jazz. Guys, these carts now, since 1972, according to Nygaard, are making 20 degrees VTA. Maybe yours was set before or maybe they make actually 30 degrees, now?

Thank you, José, but I hope you noticed that Nygaard wrote, 20 degrees, plus/minus five, so, 25, would be within target...
However, Nygaard also wrote that Westrex noticed closer to 8 degrees of lacquer elasticity. So, I went and checked the cutting head
and saw the bit-chink on the quick-disconnect block attached to its back, where the number, 15, would go... So I placed the cutter on its side on top of a ruler which has a protractor pattern on the other side and saw that the quick-disconnect block attached to the back makes 30 degrees compared to the cutter body, as Nygaard requires for the DSS cutter to make the effective 20 degrees VTA (on pickup)... √. But old Ortofons maybe black body days or before 1972 were trying to end up with 15... so, the SX45 or that saddle may also have been updated (by Robbie and/or Flozki).
