320 vs 340 stylus
So I just got my first stereo head and it is 320/340 compatible. Myshank description mentions 340 for the VR lathe and 320 for Neumann/Caruso/Nightingale. Both are 1:20 taper mounts, no. What is the difference between them?

Re: Transparent blanks behaves differently when cutting
Old thread, I know, but relevant information to add. IR thermometers measure the infrared emission of the first object they see, whether it’s clear plastic, water, or a brick wall. Now glass and plastic will let a little ir through but the mat would have to be significantly hotter to skew the readin...

1D head won't cut to 5cm/s without distortion
In the last 2 weeks, I've gotten to the point where I can make a clean embossed recording with very little surface noise. However I have to keep the level lower than I expect. A good track has my amp at 1.2vac for a 1K sine at 0Db, using an ART SLA1 100W amp (I've also tried it in bridged mode for 2...

Drive pin drill jig
After individually drilling 10 PC blanks to fit the drive pin on my 6N, I printed a jig to do 10 at a time. IMG_2678.jpeg IMG_2679.jpeg The pin aligns the blanks and locates the hole to drill. I drill it a little oversized as the hole is anti-rotation, not locating. I might source a drill bushing an...

First cut(emboss) success!
I bought a 6N two weeks ago and while getting an amp and d/a interface I practiced on silent grooves. Using a PIAPTK sapphire, a little back lean, heat and IPA/soap mix, got it pretty quiet. It has a recent rebuild on a 1-d head and got it connected to an ART SLA1 amp. The solo cup test passed so I ...

Re: Я взорвал свою режущая головку TKV?
So what speakers or tweeters are used in this head. I don’t understand what kind of secrets they are if they can be bought on the open market. These are not your personally designed speakers or tweeters. They do not have any modifications. Anyway, sooner or later this secret will become clear and e...

6N Dashpot dimension
Bought a 6N and the Dashpot was missing the plunger. I have a lathe but need to know the diameter of the 2 disks so the clearance/drag is correct. Anybody have calipers to measure theirs? Thanks

Re: Welcome, Newbies! Say Hi in this thread!
And with that, I’ll also introduce myself. Been lurking for years and just pulled the trigger for a 6N with Jed motor and 1-d head. I’ll get my questions in shortly in the tech section. I’m in central Florida is anyone’s nearby.
